The Caribbean Essence Showcase, as part of The Gallery Berlin fashion trade show held in Berlin, Germany was an initiative of Caribbean Export Development Agency (Caribbean Exports), headquartered in Barbados. The agency say that ‘the Caribbean has long been recognized as a region bustling with creativity, fueled in grand measure by its ethnic and cultural diversity. When speaking about the essence of the Caribbean, the first thing that comes to mind is the allure of its scenery and its people. This is best translated within the Caribbean’s sense of fashion and style.
The Caribbean Essence Fashion Showcase did indeed demonstrate the regions vibrancy and creativity and with 5 of the region’s leading designers presenting their SS/14 collection to international buyers and media. As the Caribbean region’s newest and bravest luxury lifestyle platform, ACU|BIEN truly had to be there to witness firsthand the 5 accomplished creative talents runway show and to meet with each of the designers and their team.
The Designers were: 5th ELEMENT (Barbados) presenting “Layers of Beauty”, drennaLUNA (Jamaica) with “Montego Bay”, Heather Jones International (Switzerland based) with “Colours of the Ocean” collection, MEILING (Trinidad) with “Cocoon” and Oriett Domenech’s (Dominican Republic) Capsule Collection. Unfortunately, Oriett Domenech did not present on the runway, but offered a stunning collection with thread embroidery lace, lazor-cut structured dresses in plastic, cork.
