Bringing Caribbean “Limin” culture to Asia

Lime House‘s inspiration pivots on the Caribbean’s cultural code and pastime of Liming. For the uninitated, to lime is to hang out with friends – perhaps regaling over food and drink, recountnig tales, jokes and anecdotes.  A Caribbean lime is often characterised for its breezy, zesty nuance and joie de vivre.

“The “welcome home” philosophy is at the core of the Lime House Experience. Soak in the laid-back vibes and enjoy the great company, great music and quality rum and our authentic food”, say Morris. Lime House has brought a piece of the Caribbean to Singapore and a lot of his home country of Trinidad and Tobago to Asia. If your true Caribbean vibe is revelling to rhythm of one of the best carnivals in the world in Trinidad and Tobago or gazing at the piercing cobalt horizon on a warm evening in Barbados or even hiding out at Jakes Hotel, Treasure Beach, Jamaica, then Lime House may be your home from home in Singapore.

Whatever is your Caribbean screen saver, three cultural ingredients make the region’s experience authentic: delightful Caribbean gastronomy, company of good friends [a lime] and a soupçon of Caribbean music.

The Making of a ‘Caribbean cultural embassy’

Lime House has certainly established itself as a ‘Caribbean cultural embassy’ in Singapore, indeed in Southeast Asia. The social and lifestyle destination in trendy Jiak Chuan/Keong Saik area attracts the adventurous and the curious on a quest for a slither of Caribbean palette and lifestyle. The heritage, multi-storey shophouse, inlaid with intricate historic Peranakan décor and the dramatic high ceilings, fashions a splendid location as a cultural hotspot.

Lime House ground-floor hosts the main restaurant and an intimate courtyard with al-fresco dining – ideal “to lime” over Caribbean cocktails, beers and light bites, and with casual lounges on upper floors. The Caribbean fusion menu was originally developed by celebrated Trinidadian chef and Caribbean culinary ambassador Hasan Defour. Veteran chef, Andy Tam, with over 30 years experience took over as Head Chef in 2018. Today, he controls the quality of the food, development of the kitchen staff and is regularly introducing new dishes infused with Asian and European techniques. Favourite plates include the Signature Jerk Chicken, Tribajam Curry Goat, Mac Balls, Lemon Lime Slaw, Spiced Banana Cake and Lime House Chocolate

No authentic Caribbean vacation would be memorable without a Lime House Classic Punch cocktail.  Other mixologist temptations are the Caribbean Life, Bermuda Triangle, Lychee Ooh Lala or Green Dreams – a blend of White Rum, Vanilla Liqueur, Cacao White, Midori Melon, Pineapple juice, Kiwi fruit.
